The Spyker C8 Spyder was the first modern Spyker unveiled after Victor Muller reintroduced the brand in 2000. At its launch it represented the start of an incredible journey and it remains an iconic supercar.

Unveiled at the Birmingham Motor Show in 2000, the stunning C8 Spyder was the highly successful first realization of Muller’s vision of a company producing what no other automotive brand does: a beautiful supercar of utmost quality and craftsmanship with the performance to match its exquisite uncompromised interior and stunning exterior design. And the C8 Spyder sports direct references to the aviation heritage of the first trailblazing Spyker company of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show in February 2001 and technically similar to the C8 Spyder, the C8 Laviolette is an elegant car which offers all the excitement of driving in a high power sports coupe – its glass canopy reminiscent of a modern jet fighter.

The header rail, finished in polished aluminum, makes the car look longer and lower, giving it a powerfully low stance. The roofline is extended by the rear window, which gives the C8 Laviolette the same pure lines as the C8 Spyder. The exquisite intake duct in the roof feeds cool air into the engine bay and also enhances the jet fighter looks of the glass canopy.

The Laviolette name pays tribute to Joseph Valentin Laviolette, the Belgian engineer who was responsible for the development of the first Spyker models in the early years of the 20th century, including the spectacular Spyker 60HP, the world‘s first six-cylinder four-wheel drive car.

This Singer started life as a 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4. There is a movement these days to take older cars and ‘re-imagine’ them using current technologies to enhance the driving experience. Basically, the car is stripped down, and the chassis and engine are rebuilt including potentially every nut, bolt, etc., using lighter, stronger materials and current engine/transmission technology. You will note on the back of the car where the word ‘Singer’ is located that there is a shadow – ‘Re-imagined.’

Per the Singer Group, Inc., “Singer is a philosophy, captured in these five words, ‘A relentless pursuit of excellence.’ We’re driven to present a definitive version for our chosen subject matter. Our ongoing mission is to create the ultimate, enduring collection of iconic design.”

Current lead time to ‘start’ building a Singer is roughly two years. Then one should expect another two years to actually complete the build. Singer restores and reimagines Porsche 911s manufactured from 1989 to 1994, and based on the 964 chassis, at the direction of their clients

Like other prestige manufacturers, Lincoln needed a more moderately priced car to help it endure the tough times of the post-Depression era. The Zephyr was introduced in November 1935. The streamlined teardrop styling was credited to designer John Tjaarda, of the Brigs Body Company, with help from a young Ford designed named Eugene T “Bob” Gregorie and input from Edsel Ford. The trio was ultimately credited with fashioning one of the first successful streamlined cars in America.

The Zephyr was powered by a new small V-12 engine derived from the standard Ford flathead V-8. Despite the advanced styling and novel V-12 engine, its parent organization, the Ford Motor Company, was never happy with sales. Yet, of the 18,994 Lincolns sold units first year, 17,715 were Zephyrs, which arguably kept the Lincoln division of the Ford Motor Company alive. In its third year, Lincoln produced 19,111 units, including just 600 of this six-passenger, two door convertible coupe model.

An authentic V-16 convertible coupe with the original chassis, engine, and body

For 1939, Cadillac introduced its second-generation V-16 engine. More conventional in design than the original, it featured a simple side-valve configuration packed in an unusual 135-degree-bank angle (nearly horizontally opposed!). But it offered comparable horsepower and torque while weighing a remarkable 250 pounds less and was less costly to build. It provided a win-win situation, both for V-16 enthusiasts and for Cadillac, which was facing decreasing sales as the U.S. struggled to recover from the Great Depression.

The new engine was mounted on a shortened chassis with the same 141.25” wheelbase as the eight-cylinder Series 75. This enabled the two series to share Fleetwood bodies and lower prices from 1937 cars by a wide margin.

Twelve body styles were catalogued for 1938 and1939, comprising a full range of possible configurations, all with beautiful styling directed by GM’s young emerging legend, Bill Mitchell, who borrowed design cues from his very modern Series 60 Special.

The MGA replaced the MG TF 1500 Midget and represented a complete styling break from MG’s earlier sports cars. Announced on 26 September 1955, the car was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

A total of 101,081 units were sold through the end of production in July 1962, the vast majority of which were exported. Only 5869 cars were sold on the home market, the lowest percentage of any British car. It was replaced by the MGB.

The MGA design dates back to 1951, when MG designer Syd Enever created a streamlined body for George Philips’ TD Le Mans car. The problem with this car was the high seating position of the driver because of the limitations of using the TD chassis. A new chassis was designed with the side members further apart and the floor attached to the bottom rather than the top of the frame sections. A prototype was built and shown to the BMC chairman Leonard Lord. He turned down the idea of producing the new car as he had just signed a deal with Donald Healey to produce Austin-Healey cars two weeks before. Falling sales of the traditional MG models caused a change of heart, and the car, initially to be called the UA-series, was brought back. As it was so different from the older MG models it was called the MGA, the “first of a new line” to quote the contemporary advertising.

There was also a new engine available, therefore the car did not have the originally intended XPAG unit but was fitted with the BMC corporate B-Series type allowing a lower bonnet line. The MGA convertible had no exterior door handles, however the coupe had door handles.

It was a body-on-frame design and used the straight-4 “B series” engine from the MG Magnette saloon driving the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox. Suspension was independent with coil springs and wishbones at the front and a rigid axle with semi-elliptic springs at the rear. Steering was by rack and pinion. The car was available with either wire-spoked or steel-disc road wheels.

For those who haven’t heard of this guy before, this is the Chip Foose Design Chevrolet Imposter. It is a 100 percent customized 1965 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport with the skeleton of a 2008 C6 Chevrolet Corvette. Foose recently celebrated 30 years of design at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, so I drove down to check it out and get some photos of this wild animal.

This project was the result of Foose and his customer Don Voth contemplating a simple question: “What if Chevy’s Corvette division had made a muscle car in 1965?” The company already had the Corvette, and it already had the Impala SS model, so what would have happened if they made one to fill the gap? This is Foose’s vision of how that would have turned out.

When the Imposter was given the green light, Voth went to a dealership to buy a brand new C6. Then it was immediately brought back to the garage and completely stripped to start prepping for its new coat. Of course, the Impala body didn’t remain the same either. A quick run-down shows that, to make this work, the Corvette platform was stretched seven inches and the Impala was shortened 14 inches. The roof is now 1.25 inches lower and eight inches shorter, the deck lid is seven inches shorter, the windshield was laid down 2.5 inches, the bumpers were hand-made, and the rear wheel wells are raised two inches and pulled forward seven inches.

We were very honored to have the Imposter on display for over a year, and hope to have it back again soon!
